Unchecked stress levels will gradually interfere with the behavior of the character, such as being frightened and unable to fight directly. A number of factors impact Affliction while in a dungeon, such as adventuring without food or light sources, witnessing the death or wounding of a fellow party member in battle, or from blights cast on them by enemies. Progress autosaves constantly, so actions are permanent. Darkest Dungeon is about making the best of a bad situation. Provisions and Trinkets can be used to adjust, train, and upgrade the player’s loadout to find the right combination of skills (together with Camping Skills) to defeat the threats in their way. At all times, the player has to juggle the need to do damage with the importance of protecting the health and minds of party members.
